How Our Safety Bed Helps with SMS

Prevent Injury

The Safety Sleeper® is designed to keep your loved one safe. The soft frame pads prevent injury by keeping your child from hitting their head, arm, or leg against one of the walls.

Stop Elopement

When The Safety Sleeper® is fully closed, this keeps the individual from wandering throughout the night, preventing elopement.

Staying Asleep

With our SMS safety bed, your loved one will have an easier time falling asleep and staying asleep, thanks to The Safety Sleeper®’s comfortable and spacious design.

Parent’s Peace of Mind

The Safety Sleeper® was built with the comfort of your loved one in mind, but it also gives you peace of mind like never before: knowing that your child is safe and sleeping soundly provides you with a good night’s sleep.

About Smith-Magenis Syndrome

Smith-Magenis Syndrome is caused by particular genetic changes in chromosomal region 17p11.2, which contains the gene RAI1.

SMS is a rare disorder that occurs in between 1 out of every 15,000 to 25,000 births. Although the number of individuals diagnosed with SMS has increased in recent years due to better diagnostic tools, the syndrome likely remains underdiagnosed.

The major features of this condition include mild to moderate intellectual disability, delayed speech and language skills, distinctive facial features, sleep disturbances, and behavioral problems.
